What makes DCIS challenging is its unpredictable nature, and doctors often need more clarity to determine which patients might actually benefit from radiation. The test in question offers a deeper look at tumor biology, aiming to predict both the chance of recurrence and whether radiation would make a difference. Supporters believe this could mean more personalized treatment\u2014helping some women avoid unnecessary radiation and guiding others toward it when beneficial. However, the question remains: do these biomarker tests provide enough additional value over current methods to warrant national insurance coverage? While federal agencies acknowledge the innovation, these lab tests aren\u2019t yet included in the new accelerated coverage pathway. Another advisory panel will meet on October 13 to consider next steps.
